The Winnebago Landfill is
located west of Acme Solvent, a former solvent reclaiming company. Acme
was listed as a Superfund site in 1983. In 1986, the now closed
North Unit of the landfill was designated a Superfund site by the USEPA.
The ROD (Record of Decision) for the site was adopted in June 1991 and
an agreement with the USEPA for the remedial work was reached in 1993.
Releases from Acme (Superfund site) to the groundwater were transported
down gradient towards the landfill. Over the years, much of the ground
chemistry analyses performed around the landfill were done to identify
the impacts from the Acme Solvent facility. Additional studies performed
down gradient of the landfill indicated that the landfill did not pose a
public safety risk and could operate in compliance with the new, more
stringent state and federal landfill regulations. The follow-up reviews
by the USEPA, last done in 2002, confirm that the procedures in place
and the processes followed continue to be appropriate for the site. |
